ONGOING MINISTRIES
Clothing Donations: The First Baptist Church is happy to announce that its Clothing Shed is once again open for donations. The decision to open or close the shed is made by St. Pauly's Textiles, which collects and distributes the donations. We accept used clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, linens, pillowcases, blankets, curtains, and stuffed animals. Donations must be bagged and should not be left outside the shed. Please do not leave furniture, electronics, household items, books, toys, garbage, pillows, rags, and fabric scraps. Donations go around the US and the world to governmental and relief organizations, the U.N., and private companies.
Legal Services: An innovative partnership between the First Presbyterian and First Baptist Churches of Cooperstown and Cornell Law School expands legal services for immigrant communities in the Mohawk Valley region and beyond. The project will provide family and immigration-related legal services to low-income immigrant farmworkers, families, and youth. We are particularly grateful for the American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ Louise Burchard Pierce Memorial Fund, which provided our church with the funding to contribute toward meeting this need.
Honduras partnership: We are pleased to continue to partner with missionary Dilia Castro and the C.E.B. Cristina VIDA Nueva school in Azacualpa, Honduras. Although we have not been able to send a group to Honduras since 2019, we are still able to be part of the ministry. Through generous support from a Palmer Grant, we have provided $40,000 in funding for a new addition to the school. We look forward to being able to travel to Honduras again in 2023, and we also hope to welcome teachers from the school to Cooperstown.
